Michelin Restaurants in Rio de Janeiro: Dining, Hotels and Holiday Planning

A Michelin dining trip to Rio de Janeiro works best when you choose the restaurant and the neighborhood together. Oro and Madame Olympe put Leblon at the center of the evening; Koral offers a Bib Gourmand alternative in Ipanema. Lasai needs a separate availability check because its current Michelin profile flags a relocation.
Checked October 27, 2026. This is a curated planning guide, not a complete list of Rio’s starred restaurants. Distinctions refer to the 2026 Guide; menus, opening dates and booking terms can change.
Which Rio Michelin restaurant should you choose?
| Restaurant | 2026 distinction | Why consider it | Before booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oro | Two stars | Creative Brazilian cooking centered on the grill in Leblon | Compare the current tasting menus and seating |
| Lasai | Two stars | Seasonal cooking with a strong vegetable focus | Confirm reopening and the exact address |
| Madame Olympe | One star | French technique, Brazilian ingredients and Japanese touches | Ask about the shorter and longer menu formats |
| Koral | Bib Gourmand | Seafood and live-fire cooking in Ipanema | Check the menu and total spend for your party |
Oro: make Leblon your dinner neighborhood
At Avenida General San Martin 889, Oro pairs chef Felipe Bronze’s cooking with Cecilia Aldaz’s wine expertise. Michelin describes two tasting-menu formats and a small counter facing the kitchen. The grill is central to the experience. If watching the cooking matters to you, request that seating explicitly rather than assuming every reservation includes it.
Plan a comfortable gap between the beach and dinner so you can return to your accommodation, change and travel without rushing. Our Oro restaurant guide is a useful next read when comparing this option. Confirm the current menu directly before paying a deposit.
Lasai: check the relocation before planning your stay
Michelin’s live Lasai listing currently states that the restaurant is temporarily closed for a move, identifying Avenida Vieira Souto 460, on the 21st floor of the Sofitel Ipanema Hotel, for December 2026. The same listing still displays the former Humaitá address in its header. Treat that inconsistency as a reason to obtain direct confirmation, not as proof that either location is accepting guests on your dates.
Contact Lasai through the official website linked in its Michelin profile. Ask whether your chosen service is operating, where to arrive and whether the booking is for the new venue. The earlier counter format and synchronized start described by Michelin should not be assumed to carry over unchanged. Do not book a nonrefundable hotel solely around the anticipated reopening.
Madame Olympe or Koral?
Madame Olympe, in Leblon’s Terrasse Center at Rua Conde de Bernadotte 26, loja 101, is the choice to investigate for a structured tasting-menu evening. Claude Troisgros and Jéssica Trindade combine French cooking with Brazilian produce and Japanese influences. Michelin describes four- and eight-course options; ask which formats are offered on the date you want.
Koral sits at Rua Barão da Torre 446 in Ipanema, near Nossa Senhora da Paz. Chef Pedro Coronha’s menu places particular emphasis on seafood, smoking and live-fire cooking, alongside other dishes. Its Bib Gourmand distinction is different from a Michelin star. Consider it when you want to balance a special tasting-menu reservation with another style of meal, and compare the actual prices rather than treating a distinction as a spending cap.
Where to stay: Leblon, Ipanema or Copacabana?
Use your confirmed dinner locations to compare accommodation. Leblon is the most direct neighborhood match for a trip centered on Oro and Madame Olympe. Ipanema makes sense to investigate for Koral and for a Lasai reservation only after the new location is confirmed. Copacabana can still fit a wider Rio itinerary; budget time and money for the journeys to your chosen restaurants.
Check the hotel’s exact street rather than relying on a neighborhood label. Compare room comfort, daytime plans and return transport as well as distance to dinner. A single long meal should not force every other day into an inconvenient base. Ask the hotel to help plan transport when your service ends late, and keep the restaurant’s entrance details available offline.
Christmas dinner and New Year’s Eve in Rio
This guide does not confirm that any featured restaurant opens on December 24, 25 or 31, or January 1. For those dates, request written confirmation of the service, menu, price, deposit and cancellation policy. For New Year’s Eve, also ask the hotel or restaurant how to reach the entrance and return afterward under the arrangements applying to your exact area.
Decide whether the priority is the meal or another evening event before reserving. Ask for the expected finish time, but leave a generous buffer instead of treating it as a guarantee. Avoid a prepaid dinner that depends on a tight connection with a flight, tour or other timed booking.
A balanced two-day Rio food plan
First day: settle into your hotel, explore locally and keep dinner flexible if you are arriving by air. Second day: keep lunch moderate and make your confirmed tasting menu the main event. If you add a third day, choose a contrasting meal rather than another marathon dinner. Check opening days before assigning any named restaurant to this framework.
Booking checklist and official sources
- Confirm dietary needs, access requirements, children’s policies and seating before making a payment.
- Ask whether drinks, service and optional courses are included in the quoted amount.
- Keep the restaurant confirmation and cancellation deadline with your travel documents.
- Recheck Lasai’s operating status and address immediately before travel.
