Yucatán’s new star
When the Michelin Guide added Yucatán to its 2026 Mexico selection, Mérida received two new stars side by side: Huniik and its sister counter, La Barra de Huniik. Chef Roberto Solís has long been one of the most important voices in Yucatecan cooking, and Huniik is where his tasting menu lives today, by Parque Santa Ana in the historic center.
A tasting menu of the peninsula
Michelin describes an immersive tasting menu built on Yucatecan cuisine and local ingredients, many from nearby organic farms, in a space that evokes the region’s cenotes. Dishes the inspectors mentioned include a shrimp aguachile, lamb slow-cooked in the manner of pibil and a habanero-accented version of xe’ec, the traditional citrus salad. The restaurant’s head of the dining room, Rodrigo Caltenco Núñez, received the Guide’s 2026 Service Award for Mexico.
La Barra de Huniik: corn at the counter
Next door, La Barra de Huniik is a more informal counter conceived in the spirit of an omakase and built around corn: guests can steer it or leave the choices to the kitchen. If you are in Mérida for several nights, the two make an interesting pair — the full tasting menu one evening, the counter another.
Make room for Mérida
Mérida rewards slow days: colonial streets, the mansions of Paseo de Montejo, markets and cenotes within reach. Our guides to Mérida’s independent boutiques and to Mesón de Malleville in Valladolid can help shape the trip. The photograph on this page shows Mérida, not the restaurant.
Reserve directly
Huniik manages its own reservations. Michelin lists lunch and dinner service Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays; confirm current hours, deposits and dietary needs with the restaurant when you book.
