Plenty of hotels promise to feel like a home. Mesón de Malleville, the Coqui Coqui Valladolid residence, doesn’t have to pretend: it was the family home of Nicolas Malleville and Francesca Bonato, founders of the Coqui Coqui perfumery. He is an Argentine model and landscape designer turned perfumer; she is an Italian designer. Together they turned a colonial house in Valladolid, Yucatán, into one of Mexico’s most intimate hotels.
A house facing the convent
The Mesón occupies a historic residence directly opposite the Convent of San Bernardino de Siena, in the Sisal neighborhood at the end of the Calzada de los Frailes. There are just four rooms. The older ones keep family heirlooms, antiques, crystal chandeliers and patterned tile floors; the suites are more contemporary, with polished concrete walls, timber beams and private terraces. The Master Suite adds its own small plunge pool.
Coqui Coqui perfumery: scent as the common thread
Coqui Coqui began in Valladolid as an artisanal perfumery inspired by the plants of the peninsula and the friars who once distilled essences in the area. The perfumery is a short walk from the hotel, and rooms are stocked with the house’s oils, creams and fragrances. The brand also makes a line of handcrafted clothing, homeware and travel pieces — if handmade design is your thing, ask what is available during your stay.
Valladolid at a slower pace
Valladolid is the ideal base for slow travel in Yucatán. Walk the Calzada de los Frailes early, step into the convent before the heat, swim in a cenote mid-morning and come back for a siesta. Afternoons are for the perfumery and the town center; evenings for a dinner with no clock. Chichén Itzá is under an hour away, but not every day needs to be an excursion.
Who Mesón de Malleville is for
Travelers who value silence, aesthetics and the feeling of being a guest in someone’s home. There is no entertainment program or resort infrastructure, and with only four rooms availability is tight: plan ahead.

How to book Coqui Coqui Valladolid
With four rooms, book weeks ahead, especially in the dry season (roughly November to April). Ask about transfers from Cancún, Tulum or Mérida and which spa treatments are available.
