Jet Set LatAM · When to Go
San Juan is warm and sunny almost every day, which makes “when should I go?” really a question about crowds, prices and storms. Here is how the year breaks down.
The short answer
For the best balance of weather, prices and crowds, visit San Juan from mid-April to June, after the winter rush and before the heart of hurricane season. For guaranteed sunshine and a buzzing atmosphere, December to April is high season.
San Juan by season
December to April: high season
Dry, breezy and busy. Old San Juan’s streets fill with music, cruise visitors and holiday energy. In January, the Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián turn the old city into one big street party. Book hotels early and expect higher rates.
Mid-April to June: the shoulder-season sweet spot
Still sunny, calmer seas and noticeably better prices. June brings Pride celebrations and, on June 23, the Noche de San Juan, when locals walk backwards into the sea at midnight for good luck.
June to November: hurricane season
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30, typically peaking around August to October. Many trips go off without a hitch, and prices drop — but buy travel insurance, book flexible rates and watch the forecast.
Best time for…
- Beach weather: December to June.
- Value: late April to June, and late summer if you are flexible.
- Festivals: January (San Sebastián) and June (Noche de San Juan).
- Fewer crowds: late spring and early fall.
