Floats as Moving Architecture: A Different Way to Look
A float changes as it approaches, passes and recedes. Treating it like a moving building can help you notice the design beyond its first impact. Look for the base, the vertical elements and the figures that give the structure a sense of scale.
Start wide, then get close
Take in the entire shape before following a single detail. Ask where your eye is being led. Does a curve return elsewhere? Does the lighting separate layers? These are observations you can make without claiming to know a float’s symbolism. For its intended story, turn to the school’s official theme material.
Remember the people
The figures and performers are part of the scene, not merely a measuring device for a large object. In your pictures, keep some human context rather than cropping every photograph into an abstract spectacle. LIESA’s judging archive includes alegorias among its categories. After the event, look for verified credits and school accounts that show the creative process.
