An unhurried city itinerary with two distinct chapters: Centro and its market life, then Paseo de Montejo and a closer look at the objects you bring home.
At a glance
- Day one
- Centro, Casa Montejo and Santiago
- Day two
- Santa Ana and Montejo 495
- Craft focus
- Maker, technique and material
- Route style
- Flexible clusters, not a timed walking map
Day one, morning: begin with Casa Montejo
Start your Centro day with Casa Montejo. The tourism authority describes a historic house now operating as a museum, with a shop offering books and work from the Grandes Maestros del Arte Popular program. Let the building and collection supply context before you begin shopping.
Check current admission arrangements before fixing the morning. If it is unavailable, keep the architectural walk and move the interior visit to another day; do not substitute a guessed opening time.
Day one, lunch and afternoon: Santiago, with room to browse
Make Santiago Market your meal anchor. Choose a current menu, ask about the day’s cooking and leave time to sit. After lunch, return to the streets or collection that interested you most instead of making every stop a first-and-last glance.
For the evening, consider Santa Lucía. The city tourism office describes its serenata tradition, but check the current cultural calendar before planning around a performance. An ordinary evening meal should still make the day work.

Day two, morning: Santa Ana to the paseo
Use Santa Ana as the starting area for a Paseo de Montejo outing. Select a manageable stretch rather than treating the entire avenue as a compulsory walk. Montejo 495 offers an interior perspective on one of its grand residences.
Book or confirm the house-museum visit first, then place breakfast around it. Casa Montejo and Montejo 495 are different institutions: keep both full names in your saved itinerary.

Day two, afternoon: choose one considered purchase
If textiles or regional clothing are the priority, the Lucas de Gálvez listing identifies a craft section to investigate. Make that a deliberate additional outing rather than pretending it sits on the paseo. Alternatively, return to the museum shop that caught your attention on day one.
Ask where the piece was made, whether decoration was done by hand or machine, and how to wash or store it. Compare the answers and construction, not just two price tags. There is no verified workshop appointment included in this itinerary.

Make the order flexible
Swap the two days to fit confirmed museum access. Keep a long lunch and an indoor break available, and arrange transport if a walking segment stops being enjoyable. The sequence is an editorial outline, not a measured route with promised walking times.
Save the food guide alongside this itinerary, then choose your hotel using the first-timer guide. You will have one practical set of decisions instead of three competing lists.
Plan the stay around your day
Choose the neighborhood first, then compare rooms and cancellation terms. For a guided outing, check the meeting point and what is included.
