Trip Planning
Three days, done right
Medellín rewards a mix of city and countryside: Botero in the old center, murals and cable cars on the hillsides, and a lake-country day trip that feels a world away.
Base yourself in El Poblado near Provenza for restaurants and nightlife, or Laureles for a quieter, more local stay.
Day 1
Centro & Botero
Plaza Botero and the Museo de Antioquia — Fernando Botero’s sculptures and paintings, right in the historic center.
Lunch downtown, then ride the Metro north to the Jardín Botánico and its Orquideorama.
Parque Explora or a slow coffee tasting — Medellín takes its beans seriously.
Dinner in Provenza, El Poblado’s tree-lined restaurant district.
Day 2
Comuna 13 & the Metrocable
A guided walk through Comuna 13, with its outdoor escalators, murals and hip-hop scene.
Lunch in Laureles, the leafy neighborhood locals love.
Ride the Metrocable up the hillside to Parque Arví for cloud-forest air and city views.
Rooftop drinks in El Poblado as the valley lights up.
Day 3
Guatapé Day Trip
Drive about two hours to Guatapé and climb the 700-plus steps of El Peñol for the lake view.
Lunch by the reservoir — fresh trout is the local order.
Wander Guatapé’s streets, lined with brightly painted zócalos.
Back in Medellín for a farewell bandeja paisa or a Provenza tasting menu.
