Parque de las Leyendas, Lima: A Family Plan for the San Miguel Site

Highlights
- Choose the San Miguel site explicitly when arranging transport.
- Use the official map to select a short route.
- Treat animal areas, archaeology and gardens as choices, not a checklist.

Table of contents
Parque de las Leyendas can be a substantial family outing, so begin with a smaller ambition than seeing everything. Choose a few places your children actually want to explore, build in a proper pause and make the return journey straightforward. That approach leaves space for curiosity instead of turning the park into an endurance test.
This guide concerns the San Miguel site in Lima. The park also operates at Huachipa, so check the location on tickets, event announcements and transport instructions. A familiar attraction name is not enough when a city has more than one site.
Start with the San Miguel map
The park's official map introduces zoology, native plants, archaeological monuments and museums. Its published San Miguel address is Avenida Parque de las Leyendas 580. Download or save the map before leaving, then identify the entrance, your preferred areas and a practical route back.
Ask each child to choose one interest rather than presenting an overwhelming list. One may want animals, another old buildings or plants. Use those preferences to create a compact loop. Keep an optional extra for later, instead of promising every section at the start of the day.
Look at the spaces between the things you want to see. A route should include the walking and the breaks, not just the named attractions. If you will use a stroller or mobility aid, ask the park about the surfaces and access on that specific route. The map alone is not an accessibility assessment.
Check the ticket categories
The published regular tariff lists S/20 for visitors aged 13 and over, S/10 for ages 3 to 12, and S/4 for adults aged 60 and over. The table also specifies documents for concessions. Reconfirm prices and eligibility before buying, especially when travelling with identification issued outside Peru.
Do not apply a school-group or institutional rate to an ordinary family visit. If an online offer seems different from the regular tariff, read its date, minimum group size and conditions. Save the confirmation and bring the documentation required for the tickets you have selected.
The park lists some recreational activities separately from general admission. Decide whether you want any extras before agreeing to them, and confirm the current cost and operating arrangements. A family visit can be worthwhile without adding every optional activity.
Give the outing a comfortable rhythm
Choose a start time that fits the current opening hours, your accommodation and the day's forecast. Allow for getting across Lima without committing to an unverified fixed journey time. Ask your driver or accommodation for an estimate for your actual departure point and day.
Pack water, weather-appropriate layers and the small essentials you need while walking. Check the current rules before bringing food or other items. Keep the bag manageable: carrying an elaborate picnic that cannot be used as planned will make the route harder, not more relaxing.
Build a break into the plan before anyone asks for one. Let children sit, talk about what they noticed and decide whether to continue. A return to one favourite area can be more rewarding than rushing towards a distant section simply to tick it off.
Observe with care
Follow the posted rules around animals and archaeological spaces. Stay behind barriers, avoid feeding or disturbing animals and keep children close where paths meet visitor areas. If an animal is not visible, allow the visit to remain about observation rather than trying to provoke a response.
Use the outing for a few small questions: what is the animal doing, how does a plant differ from one at home, or what does a building's material tell you? You do not need to turn the visit into a lesson with correct answers. Leave time to notice details and read the interpretation provided on site.
Know when to finish
Arrange a clear pickup point and keep the driver's or accommodation's contact details available offline. Check the park's departure arrangements before waiting at an entrance that may not be the best place to meet your transport.
Leave the rest of the day adaptable. Our broader Lima family guide offers alternatives for another day, including a separate evening fountain outing. Combining everything into one schedule can remove the pleasure from each part. A successful visit ends while there is still something your family would happily return to see.
