For years, Asunción’s hotel scene was a choice between dated business towers and simple guesthouses. That has changed. The city now has a small but genuinely good set of boutique hotels: restored colonial houses, a converted factory, garden hideaways in Villa Morra, and new-build hotels with rooftop pools in Recoleta. Prices remain gentle by regional standards, which makes Asunción one of the easiest capitals in South America to do well.
We’ve grouped our picks by what kind of trip you’re planning. If you’re still deciding on a neighborhood, start with our Centro vs Villa Morra guide; the map at the bottom of this page shows live prices.
The quick answer: For history and walkability, Palmaroga (Tapestry Collection by Hilton) downtown. For a resort-like stay with a pool and great restaurant, La Misión in the Villa Morra area. For intimate and residential, Las Lomas Casa Hotel in Carmelitas. For design, La Factoría. For rooftop pools and good value, the newer hotels in Recoleta such as Hub Hotel and Five Hotel.
Best for history: downtown
Palmaroga, a Tapestry Collection by Hilton
Set in restored historic buildings on Calle Palma, Palmaroga is the most stylish way to stay in the Centro. High ceilings, patios and a good restaurant-bar make it feel like a private club, and you can walk to the Panteón, the Palacio de los López and the Costanera. It is our top pick for a first visit focused on history. Read our full Palmaroga review.
La Casona and the historic houses
A handful of small hotels occupy old Asunción mansions. La Casona, with just nine rooms in a colonial-era house, is the type: thick walls, tiled floors and quiet courtyards. Expect character over amenities, and check room sizes carefully before you book.
Hotel Guaraní
The modernist tower on Plaza Uruguaya was Asunción’s grand hotel in the 1960s and has been renovated. Stay for the architecture and the location; compare recent reviews, since standards in renovated landmark hotels can vary by room.
Best for a resort feel: Villa Morra and Carmelitas
La Misión
Asunción’s most polished boutique hotel, La Misión has a pool, a gourmet restaurant, a cocktail bar and live jazz on weekends, all in a tranquil, Jesuit-inspired setting near Villa Morra’s best addresses. It’s the hotel to book for a honeymoon, a birthday or simply a few days of doing very little in the heat.
Las Lomas Casa Hotel
With around twenty rooms on a leafy street in Carmelitas, Las Lomas feels like a well-run private house. You are a short walk from Paseo Carmelitas for dinner and drinks, and far enough from the main avenues to sleep well. Best for couples and solo travelers who want calm.
Hotel Nino
A smaller, stylish option worth comparing when the bigger boutiques are full, with a residential setting and a more local feel.
Best for design lovers
La Factoría Hotel
A former factory turned industrial-chic hotel, with exposed brick, steel, plants and a strong restaurant, Ofelia, that draws locals as well as guests. If you like your hotels with a point of view, this is it.
Best value with a rooftop pool: Recoleta
Recoleta, between the Centro and Villa Morra, has filled with modern mid-size hotels. Hub Hotel and Five Hotel both offer rooftop pools, fresh rooms and easy access to Shopping del Sol and the restaurant districts by Uber. In summer, a pool is not a luxury in Asunción; it’s survival.
Big brands and business hotels
If you’re collecting points, Asunción has a Sheraton and an Aloft (both Marriott) in the modern business districts, and Villa Morra Suites on Avenida Mariscal López offers apartment-style rooms for longer stays. For a very early flight, consider a hotel in Luque near the airport. More on arrivals in our guide to getting to Asunción. You can also compare flight options on Skyscanner.
How to choose

- Centro is best for sightseeing by day; it gets quiet after dark.
- Villa Morra, Carmelitas and Recoleta are best for dining, shopping and nightlife.
- Check event dates: business conferences and the July Expo can fill the top hotels.
