Asunción does nights the way it does everything: late, warm and with zero pretension. The city has quietly built a seriously good bar scene, from rooftops looking over the river to a speakeasy that makes you solve a riddle to get in. Dinner is at 9:30, the bars fill at 11, and nobody is in a hurry. Pace yourself. Or don’t, we’re not your mother.
The quick answer: for views, go to Negroni Downtown Skybar or Ko’ape Rooftop. For a secret-door night, O’Leary Club. For an easy bar crawl, Paseo Carmelitas and the streets of Villa Morra. For beer, Palo Santo Brewing. Use a ride-hailing app to get around at night.
Rooftop bars
Negroni Downtown Skybar
On the 15th and 16th floors of the Unicentro building in the center, with views over the old city and the river. Go for sunset and stay for the second round. There is also a Negroni rooftop at the Dazzler hotel, if you are staying uptown.
Ko’ape Rooftop
In the colorful Loma San Jerónimo neighborhood, with the bay below. It feels more local and laid-back than the hotel rooftops. Pair it with an afternoon walk through the Loma San Jerónimo murals.
Casa Clari
A downtown spot with a view of the presidential palace, which is lit up beautifully at night.
Speakeasies and cocktail bars
O’Leary Club
A speakeasy with a weekly riddle you need to crack to get in. Check its social media for the clue, and bring a clever friend.
Dr. Morra
A cocktail bar in Villa Morra known for its creative drinks. A good place to start the night in the neighborhood.
Checkpoint Downtown
A center option if you are staying in the old town and want to keep it walkable.
Paseo Carmelitas and Villa Morra
Paseo Carmelitas is a complex of restaurants and bars (including Hippie Chic) where you can easily hop from dinner to drinks without getting in a car. Manzana T and the bars around Villa Morra keep it going, and Perpetuo Wine Bar is the pick for a glass of something Argentine or Uruguayan. Classic pubs like Britannia Pub and Kilkenny are reliable for a casual beer.
Craft beer
Palo Santo Brewing is the name to know for Paraguayan craft beer. Ask for anything brewed with local ingredients.

- Getting home: use a ride-hailing app rather than walking in the center late at night. More in our safety tips.
