Illustrative photograph: sculptural seating and its surface; not a Campana design.
A collectible chair should give you something to consider after the first glance. With Estúdio Campana, start with the material and the work required to transform it. Our buying approach puts authorship, construction and the reality of living with a piece ahead of a fashionable room image. A surprising object can be the beginning of an interior, provided it also fits your life.
An experimental Brazilian studio
Founded in São Paulo in 1984 by Fernando and Humberto Campana, the studio describes its practice as a laboratory for materials and objects. Its cork-based Sobreiro collection was developed with Portuguese partners Corticeira Amorim and Epoca. That collaboration is a specific material story; it should not be treated as proof that every Campana piece has the same production method or environmental footprint.
Examine the individual work
Request the exact design name, edition information where applicable, dimensions and materials before comparing offers. Ask who fabricated that particular piece and whether the seller is authorized to represent it. Separate an original design, a licensed production and an attribution. For a vintage work, request a condition report and a record of restoration rather than relying on the name in a listing.
Make it work in a room
Plan where the object will sit before choosing it. A sculptural piece needs visual space, but it may also need a practical companion: another comfortable seat, a plain table or a light that reveals texture. If possible, experience the seating rather than judging it entirely from photographs. Consider maintenance, delicate surfaces and whether the finish suits your household.
What sustainability evidence would help?
Ask about the specific material source, repair options, replacement components and packing method. A collection’s use of cork is a starting point for discussion, not a complete life-cycle assessment. Obtain a written shipping quote and clarify responsibility for packing and transit damage before paying. Our preference is a well-documented piece you intend to keep and care for; scarcity or a high price alone does not establish quality or responsible production.
