Jet Set LatAM · Plan a little deeper
Pick the part of the island that fits the days you actually want to have.
Start with your beach plans
Where to stay in Florianópolis is less about finding one “best” neighborhood than deciding what you want nearby. Lagoa da Conceição suits a social, varied trip; Jurerê Internacional puts the polished northern beach scene first; Campeche and the south favor a quieter, wilder setting.
Before opening a hotel map, choose your two must-do beach days and the kind of evening you want. A lovely room on the opposite side of the island can mean spending more of your trip getting between places. Our Florianópolis first-timer’s guide covers the wider picture.
Lagoa da Conceição: for variety
The lagoon is the island’s social center, with restaurants, bars and access to the east- and south-coast beaches. Make this your starting point if you want several kinds of days: Atlantic surf, a dune outing and an evening around the lagoon.
Joaquina and Praia Mole draw surfers; Joaquina also has dunes for sandboarding. Think of Lagoa as a base for exploring, rather than assuming a lagoon address gives you an ocean beach outside the door. Check the exact location of a prospective stay against the beach you expect to visit most.
Jurerê Internacional: for a beach-led stay
Choose Jurerê when your ideal trip revolves around the polished north: calm-water beaches, beach clubs and a glossier atmosphere. It makes sense to prioritize the setting you want to return to each afternoon, especially if you prefer fewer excursions.
The trade-off is a different emphasis from the east coast’s surf scene or the south’s quieter coves. If those dominate your wish list, compare the practical journeys before committing. Visit Brasil’s destination overview also distinguishes Jurerê’s lively scene from the island’s other beach areas.
Campeche and the south: for a slower rhythm
Campeche and the southern part of the island offer long beaches and a more village-like feel. Put them first if the beach itself is the reason for coming, and a quieter setting matters more than a full evening circuit.
Build a few spacious days instead of using a southern stay as a launchpad for every northern beach. The Florianópolis beach guide is a useful companion when choosing which shores deserve your time.
Before you book
- Map the actual address. Compare it with your main beach and dinner plans, not just the neighborhood name.
- Decide on transport. A car makes the island’s spread-out beaches easier to explore. If you plan to rent one, ask the property about parking before booking.
- Choose one base first. For a short trip, our recommendation is to settle into one area and make selective outings, rather than packing up repeatedly.
- Match the season to the mood. December–March is the busy summer period; winter, June–August, is cooler and calmer.
