Ara Vartanian in São Paulo
The art of the inverted diamond — sculptural jewelry that turns precious stones inside out, from a Jardins atelier with a rebellious streak.
São Paulo rewards the eye that looks twice. Behind the polished façades of Jardins and the precise lines of Faria Lima, the city’s most compelling luxury often carries a sly disruption—a familiar form turned, tilted or exposed. Ara Vartanian’s jewelry belongs perfectly to this landscape: precious stones shown from unexpected angles, engineering made sensual, and glamour sharpened by a little rebellion.
The Brazilian jeweler is known for challenging conventional gemstone settings, creating pieces that feel timeless at first glance and quietly subversive at the second. For a fashion-focused day in São Paulo, his world offers an intimate way to encounter the city’s appetite for design, craft and confident individuality.
A Jewelry Stroll Through São Paulo
Begin in Jardins, where tree-lined streets gather Brazilian fashion, international houses and independent design. Ara Vartanian is available at NK Store on Rua Haddock Lobo 1592, while the official store directory also lists a boutique at Iguatemi São Paulo on Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima 2232. The brand’s São Paulo atelier welcomes visitors by appointment.
Make the jewelry stop part of our designer boutique walk through São Paulo’s Jardins district. The pleasure is in contrast: fluid Brazilian clothing beside stones set with architectural precision, then coffee or lunch nearby while the city’s creative language settles into focus.
The Ara Vartanian Story
Born in Beirut to an Armenian family, Ara Vartanian moved to Brazil when he was one. Gemstones were part of the family story: after settling in São Paulo, his father became a prominent supplier of diamonds and precious stones. Ara initially studied economics at Boston University and worked as a Nasdaq trader in New York before returning to Brazil in 2000 and entering the family business.
He began signing his own jewelry collections in 2002 and opened his namesake atelier in 2005. Classical knowledge became a foundation to push against. Rather than hiding a stone’s underside, Vartanian developed settings that reveal unexpected facets and make every angle part of the composition.
That appetite for creative exchange has extended to collaborations with contemporary artists Janaina Tschäpe and Ernesto Neto. In 2017, he worked with Kate Moss on a 27-piece collection. The house also credits Brazilian model Sabrina Gasperin as a longstanding muse and design collaborator, including on the bestselling Bone earring.
Pieces and Details to Notice
Inverted Diamonds
Vartanian’s signature gesture turns the conventional setting inside out, letting the pointed architecture of the stone become visible. The effect is tactile, modern and slightly dangerous.
The Bone Earring
A sculptural house favorite associated with Sabrina Gasperin, it brings organic form and polished metal close to the face.
The Link Collection
Conceived around human connection, Link draws on Ara’s fascination with mechanics. Its bracelet closes with four inverted diamonds and can carry a private engraved message inside.
Brazilian Color
Look beyond diamonds to expressive tourmalines and colored stones. Ask where a stone originated and how its cut, setting and natural character shaped the finished design.
“The courage to expose a hidden facet, disturb a perfect symmetry.”
The Jet Set LatAM Styling Edit
Treat Ara Vartanian jewelry as structure, not decoration. An inverted-diamond ring gives a cream trouser suit an intelligent edge; a single sculptural earring transforms a black column dress; a colored-stone pendant brings depth to an open white shirt. The most modern approach is restraint—one piece with enough visual tension to carry the look.
For São Paulo days, pair gold and dark stones with tobacco leather, crisp poplin and softly tailored linen. At night, let white diamonds flash against matte black or deep chocolate. Keep the neckline clean, the hair simple and the manicure polished but quiet. This jewelry is designed to be discovered from more than one angle.

How to Visit and Shop
For the most personal experience, contact the atelier for an appointment. The official directory lists the São Paulo showroom by appointment at +55 (11) 3815-0200, Iguatemi São Paulo on the Faria Lima level, and NK Store in Jardins. Verify current hours and availability before visiting, particularly if you hope to see a specific stone or collection.
Ask to view a piece from every side and try it while moving. Comfort and balance are central to the house’s stated approach, and the most interesting construction details often appear in profile. Travelers interested in provenance can also ask about the brand’s Conscious Mining work and its use of recycled gold.
A Different Angle on Brazilian Luxury
Ara Vartanian’s jewelry makes luxury feel curious again. The value lies not only in rarity, but in perspective: the courage to expose a hidden facet, disturb a perfect symmetry and allow precious materials to feel personal. In São Paulo, that balance of refinement and defiance looks entirely at home.
