Tepoztlán is one of those rare places where myth, mountains, and everyday life blend so seamlessly that the entire town feels enchanted. Just an hour from Mexico City, it’s a Pueblo Mágico known for its dramatic cliffs, pre‑Hispanic legends, weekend markets, and a spiritual energy that has drawn artists, healers, and travelers for decades. Best of all, it’s a hidden gem where you can avoid the crowds.

1. How to Get There
Reaching Tepoztlán is straightforward, especially from Mexico City.
- From Mexico City by car: The drive takes about 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. You’ll head south on the Autopista México–Cuernavaca (Highway 95D) and exit toward Tepoztlán. The final stretch winds through lush hills and offers beautiful views of the Tepozteco mountains.
- By bus: Buses depart regularly from Terminal de Autobuses del Sur (Taxqueña). The company Pullman de Morelos runs comfortable, direct routes to Tepoztlán’s main station. The ride typically lasts 1.5 hours.
- From Cuernavaca: If you’re already in Morelos, Tepoztlán is only 25–30 minutes away by car or local bus.
- Getting around: The town is compact and walkable. Taxis are available for trips to nearby neighborhoods or trailheads, but most visitors explore on foot.
