A Sun‑Drenched Walk Through Colombia’s Most Stylish Colonial Quarter
🌺 Cartagena’s Walled City: Fashion, Heat, and Magic
We just returned from Cartagena, and the Walled City feels more enchanting than ever — a place where fashion, craftsmanship, and Caribbean romance blend into one long, golden‑hour stroll.
Inside these centuries‑old walls, boutiques aren’t simply stores. They’re immersive little worlds: airy courtyards perfumed with jasmine, linen dresses swaying in the breeze, hand‑embroidered swimwear glowing under warm light, and staff who greet you like old friends.
Walking here feels like slipping into a painting — bougainvillea spilling over balconies, pastel façades, horse‑drawn carriages passing slowly, and the hum of the Caribbean drifting through every doorway.

🌿 How to Wander the Walled City (Fresh From Our Trip)
The best way to explore Cartagena’s boutiques is to let the city set the pace. Mornings are breezy and golden; afternoons are warm and languid; evenings glow with lantern light.
Here’s the exact loop we walked throughout the trip — effortless, scenic, and full of fashion moments.
Start on Calle del Colegio — Johanna Ortiz
Johanna Ortiz’s flagship is the perfect opening note — tropical, sculptural, and unmistakably Colombian. But stepping inside after our trip, it felt even more magical.
Warm Caribbean light spills across terracotta tiles, jasmine drifts in from the courtyard, and — in true Cartagena fashion — a small dog was fast asleep right in the doorway. We literally had to tiptoe over him to get inside.
Inside, the boutique feels like a private garden dressed as a fashion sanctuary. Soft music, warm wood, and dresses that sway like palm leaves. Sculptural, feminine, and full of that signature Johanna Ortiz drama.
See below for pictures.

Drift toward Calle Santo Domingo — Agua by Agua Bendita
This street is pure Cartagena romance — sun‑washed balconies, bougainvillea, and that soft Caribbean breeze.
Agua by Agua Bendita sits like a botanical sanctuary, glowing with warm light and filled with hand‑embroidered pieces so detailed they feel alive. It’s right next to the Agua Bendita store, but this trip we only stepped into Agua by Agua Bendita, since we’d already visited the Agua Bendita boutique at the mall in Bocagrande.
And then came the moment.
I tried on a dress I loved — the kind that makes you feel instantly elegant — but Cartagena’s heat had other plans. I barely fit into it and getting out became a full‑body workout. A humbling experience, but honestly? It was still my favorite dress of the trip.
Stay tuned for the full Agua Bendita blog — because I wore my Agua Bendita dress all around Playa del Carmen and even on my flight home, and the compliments did not stop.

Continue to Calle de la Mantilla — Silvia Tcherassi
Silvia Tcherassi’s boutique‑atelier sits just steps from her iconic hotel — a quiet, elegant refuge where the heat softens and everything feels serene. Inside, the space is cool and architectural, with that signature Tcherassi blend of minimalism and Caribbean warmth. After wandering the sun‑drenched streets, it felt like a sanctuary.
I tried on a few pieces, but the green jumpsuit stole the show. The color, the drape, the way it moved — it was one of those rare pieces that makes you stand taller the second you zip it up.
A full Tcherassi deep‑dive is coming soon.

Make a stop for understated luxury — Juan de Dios
Juan de Dios brings a softer, romantic side to Colombian resort wear. The boutique glows with warm, neutral tones — sand, coral, ocean green — echoing the city’s palette. Inside, everything feels intentional: sculptural silhouettes, elegant wrap skirts, and pieces that look designed for golden hour. It’s refined without trying too hard — the kind of boutique that makes you want to float through a beach club in oversized sunglasses and a perfectly tied sarong.
It’s a brand that lingers with you long after you leave — feminine, elegant, and unmistakably Colombian.

End near Calle de Ayos — Maaji
Maaji brings a burst of youthful Colombian joy. Walking in feels like stepping into a technicolor beach day — bold prints, reversible swimwear, and racks that practically hum with optimism. Even after visiting so many boutiques, Maaji still felt refreshing: fun, approachable, and full of pieces that make you want to book another beach day immediately.
A deeper Maaji spotlight is coming soon.
