The Designer Edit · Colombia
A textile bag can bring the color into an otherwise simple wardrobe. Mola Sasa deserves a closer look because the textile is central to the design, rather than an incidental decoration. The useful shopping question is how that particular piece was made, who made it and whether its shape works for the life you will give it.
Researched editorial profile. Official sources checked October 5, 2026. Styling and fitting suggestions are our editorial guidance; this is not a firsthand product review.
A Colombian label with a textile point of view
According to Mola Sasa’s own history, Yasmin Sabet founded the label in 2015, beginning with a collaboration with Gunadule communities in Colombia. The brand describes partnerships across the country and identifies several distinct practices, including Gunadule textiles, fique work associated with Kankuamo communities and iraca weaving in Nariño. These are the label’s descriptions of its relationships, rather than an independent assessment of every product.
That specificity matters. Colombian craft is not one interchangeable aesthetic, and a colorful bag is not automatically a mola. Ask which textile or weaving technique belongs to the piece you are considering. Keeping the maker and the material in the conversation makes the purchase more interesting than choosing only by color.
Choose the shape before the pattern
The official store separates bags into categories such as drawstrings and totes alongside its collections. Start with what the bag must carry. A dinner bag needs room for your actual phone, keys and essentials; a day bag needs an opening and carrying method you can use repeatedly. Measure those items before buying online, then compare the usable opening as well as the outside dimensions.
For a structured shape, ask whether the inside is divided and whether a bulky phone case fits. For a softer bag, ask how it sits when partly empty. A beautiful textile does not settle those questions. If a strap is included, establish its length, attachment and whether it is removable. Avoid treating an attractive clutch as your only sightseeing bag when you prefer both hands free.
Let the textile set the outfit
Our styling suggestion is to begin with an outfit you already wear: a plain dress, a shirt and trousers, or denim with a simple top. Put the bag beside it and look at the whole silhouette. One strong textile can give the outfit a point of view without requiring matching earrings, shoes and a second print.
For a patterned wardrobe, compare scale rather than trying to match every color. A small repeating pattern and a larger graphic can coexist, but the effect is easier to judge in a photograph of the complete outfit. Choose the bag because you like that result, rather than because it photographs beautifully in isolation. Picture an ordinary dinner at home as well as the holiday occasion.
Ask about the particular piece and its care
Request clear views of the back, opening, lining and base. If the listing uses a representative image, ask whether you will receive that exact textile arrangement or a variation. Handmade variation and an undisclosed substitution are different things; a short written exchange can clarify what is being sold.
Get care instructions for the actual combination of textile, lining, trim and hardware. Do not assume every natural fiber tolerates the same cleaning method. Ask how to protect the bag from a spill and what repair support is available. For travel, use the seller’s packing advice and keep delicate surfaces away from exposed zippers and toiletry leaks. A rigid bag needs space that preserves its shape, rather than a last-minute squeeze into a full suitcase.
Clarify the order before checkout
At our research check, the site’s banner advertised standard U.S. shipping and returns on in-stock items, while its older Customer Care page displayed a more restrictive returns statement. Those published messages do not establish one clear policy for every order. Ask the brand to confirm in writing which conditions apply to your item, destination and purchase channel.
Also establish whether the piece is physically in stock or made to order, the dispatch estimate, final currency and any destination charges. If you are traveling, avoid relying on an unconfirmed delivery to a hotel. Keep the product description and the seller’s answers with the receipt so that a later service request refers to the same piece and conditions.

For context beyond handbags, continue to our Colombian fashion designers guide. For a comparison of bag categories and shopping questions across the region, read the Latin American handbags and accessories edit. The aim is to understand the differences between labels, rather than collect several bags that serve the same purpose.
This is a Colombia-wide designer profile. We have not presented the brand’s office as a walk-in boutique or assigned the story to a city simply because a shipment might originate there. If an in-person visit matters to your trip, use the official contact channel to establish a current retail appointment or stockist before building your day around it.
