Casa Gilardi: How to Reserve a Visit to Barragán’s Mexico City House

Casa Gilardi is still a lived-in private home, so visiting it takes a confirmed reservation rather than a spontaneous museum stop. For architecture travelers, that distinction is essential: book the house first, then arrange the rest of your San Miguel Chapultepec day around the allotted hour. This guide concerns Casa Gilardi, a separate property from Casa Luis Barragán.
Reserve directly and prepare the right payment
The house’s official visitor information lists a guided visit of about one hour at MXN 600 per person, paid in cash for individual visits. Book through the official Casa Gilardi website; the operators state that they do not work with outside agencies or guides. These details were checked in October 2026.
Use the confirmed booking details for your arrival time and address. Do not treat a request or an uncompleted booking form as an admission ticket. Arrange your cash before setting out and leave a traffic buffer, especially if you have another timed visit on the same day.
Know the rules before you arrive
The official FAQ permits phone photography but excludes professional cameras, tripods and photo sessions during ordinary visits. It also describes a maximum ten-minute late-arrival tolerance, with possible shortened or refused entry afterward. Larger groups have different prepayment conditions; read the current terms for your party size.
Keep a house visit distinct from a production shoot. Ask before touching anything or stepping away from the permitted route. A phone photograph can record a detail, but give the space a moment of attention first: a photograph alone cannot convey how one room leads into another.
Look beyond a single colorful image
Our archive image shows the strong relationship between water and colored architectural planes. Use it as a visual introduction, not a promise of the exact light or route on your visit. Weather, time and the guided itinerary can change what you experience.
A useful way to look is to follow transitions: bright to shaded, narrow to open, enclosed to outward-looking. Ask the authorized guide how the house functions as a home and what visitors should understand about its design. Let their account distinguish documented history from your own visual response.
Accessibility and arrival
The house states that it has no adapted access or lift and no private parking. Contact it before booking if you need a step-free route or other assistance; do not infer suitability from photographs. Food and drinks are not permitted inside.
Plan a simple arrival and keep the next commitment flexible. The house’s neighborhood guide points to galleries including Kurimanzutto and Galería RGR. Treat these as options to research: their own opening days and exhibitions need checking, and they are not included in your house ticket.
Casa Gilardi or Casa Luis Barragán?
They are separate visits with separate booking arrangements. Read our Casa Luis Barragán guide before choosing, and reserve each independently if you want both. Leave enough space between appointments to appreciate the contrast instead of rushing through two houses merely to collect photographs.
