Before “clean beauty” was a shelf label at Sephora, a woman from Barranquilla was blending botanicals on a farm in Vermont and refusing to put anything synthetic in the bottle. That woman is Tata Harper, and the green glass jars on every editor’s vanity are her doing.
This guide covers her Colombian roots, how the brand actually works, the products worth your money first, who they suit, where to buy, and how to carry a little of the ritual into a trip to Colombia.
The quick answer: Tata Harper is worth it if you want luxury skincare made without synthetic ingredients and you are willing to pay for it. Start with the Regenerating Cleanser and the Water-Lock Moisturizer; add the Resurfacing Serum if dullness or texture is your main complaint.
Who is Tata Harper?
Tata Harper was born in Barranquilla, on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, into a family of entrepreneurs. She studied industrial engineering at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, worked in Mexico and Paris, then moved to Miami before settling on a farm in Vermont’s Champlain Valley in 2007.
The turning point was personal: after her stepfather’s cancer diagnosis, she began reading labels and did not like what she found. Years of research into green chemistry and formulation later, she and co-founder Henry Harper launched Tata Harper Skincare in 2010. South Korea’s Amorepacific acquired the brand in 2022, and it is still produced on the Vermont farm.
What makes Tata Harper different
- Farm-to-face: the brand is vertically integrated, formulating and batching on its own Vermont farm rather than outsourcing to a contract lab. Not every ingredient is grown there, but the products are made there.
- Nothing synthetic: the line is formulated without synthetic chemicals, fillers or GMOs.
- Multi-botanical formulas: instead of one hero ingredient, most products layer dozens of plant extracts, oils and flowers.
- That packaging: heavy green glass, gold lettering. Yes, it looks great in a hotel bathroom. No, it is not the lightest thing in your carry-on.
The best Tata Harper products to start with
1. Regenerating Cleanser
The gateway product. A gel-cream cleanser with fruit enzymes and fine apricot microspheres, so it cleans and gently exfoliates in one step. Use it in the morning, or as the second cleanse at night. It is the one we would buy if we could only buy one.
2. Water-Lock Moisturizer
A bouncy, hydration-first moisturizer that works well under SPF and makeup. Good for combination skin and for humid destinations like Cartagena or Rio, where richer creams can feel heavy by noon.
3. Resurfacing Serum
The brand’s answer to dullness and uneven texture, built on plant-based acids. Start a few nights a week, never on the same night as another exfoliating product, and be diligent with sunscreen the next morning.
4. Eye care
Tata Harper’s eye products are a nice upgrade for long-haul flights and late dinners. The newest is a Brightening Eye Gel with rose-gold pigments that sits somewhere between skincare and makeup.

Is Tata Harper right for your skin?
- Great fit: normal, dry or combination skin; people who want a natural routine without giving up a luxury feel.
- Go slowly: very reactive skin. Botanical-heavy formulas can include naturally fragrant extracts and essential oils, so patch test.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a single, clinically dosed active like prescription retinoids. That is a different philosophy.
Where to buy Tata Harper
Shop the full range on Tata Harper’s official site, where sets and travel sizes appear regularly. In person, the brand is carried in selected Sephora stores in North America and by luxury and clean-beauty retailers in the US, Canada and the UK. Check stock before you go; not every store carries the full line.
From Vermont back to Colombia: a beauty-minded trip
Tata Harper’s brand lives in New England, but its founder’s story starts on the Caribbean. If you want to connect the dots, Colombia rewards a beauty-and-botanicals itinerary.
In Bogotá, start with the flower stalls at Paloquemao market, spend an afternoon among the colonial streets and Sunday market of Usaquén, then shop Colombian designers around Zona Rosa and El Retiro. Our Bogotá destination guide and Bogotá boutique shopping guide map it out.
For the founder’s hometown energy, time a trip to Barranquilla for Carnival in February, one of the biggest in the world. Pack a lightweight moisturizer and a serious SPF; the coast is hot, humid and generous with sun. Browse our Carnival guides and the Cartagena guide if you are adding the Caribbean coast.
