Latin American Designer Jewelry: A Considered Shopping Guide

Roma, Mexico City — Jet Set LatAM’s own travel-video still, June 2025. Destination context, not a designer boutique or jewelry photograph.
A sculptural earring earns its place in your suitcase when you understand the hands, materials and decisions behind it.
The piece on your feed may be the starting point. A good shopping visit turns that image into questions about scale, weight, finish and how you will actually wear it.
Start with three different shopping approaches
This is an appointment-and-purchase guide, not another ranking of designers. Use it alongside our Latin American jewelry designer overview when a particular piece has moved from inspiration to your shortlist.
TANE provides an official Mexican shopping route with jewelry and objects, plus personal-shopping and virtual-appointment services advertised on its site. Ask about the exact service you need rather than assuming every purchase includes customization.
Silvia Furmanovich’s official directory lists São Paulo stockists and a way to request an atelier visit. An appointment request is not a confirmed studio invitation, and it does not promise that the designer will attend.
Mercedes Salazar’s international store offers a direct route to jewelry and accessories from Colombia. Compare it with the brand’s Colombian storefront when arranging a local purchase; availability and conditions need not be identical.
Send a useful appointment request
Choose two or three pieces rather than sending a whole saved folder. Include the product names or official links, your travel dates, preferred language and whether you want to try something on or discuss an order.
Ask whether those references can be viewed at the proposed location. A retailer may represent a designer without stocking the collection that caught your eye. Get the address and appointment confirmation before arranging a special journey.
Try the piece as you would wear it
For earrings, notice movement and weight rather than looking only at a front-facing photograph. Ask permission to try them and check whether the store’s hygiene policy allows it.
For a ring, discuss fit and the practicalities of resizing. For a necklace, check where it sits with the neckline you actually wear. Bring a simple outfit that lets you judge the proportions without competing accessories.
Ask how the clasp, fastening and finish should be cared for. A piece with wood, textile or other delicate components may need different handling from the metal jewelry already in your drawer.
Ask about materials without making assumptions
Read the specific product description. A designer’s use of gold, silver or gemstones in one collection does not establish the composition of another, and a golden color does not tell you whether a piece is solid gold or plated.
Ask for the material description, care instructions and any stone information the seller supplies. Request written clarification if the description and the conversation seem inconsistent; the right next step is clarity, not a rushed purchase.
Do not buy on a promise of investment performance. Choose a piece for its design, workmanship and place in your life, with an amount you are comfortable spending on an object you may never resell.
Separate ready-to-wear, pre-order and bespoke
A piece available to buy online is not necessarily available for immediate collection. Ask whether the item is in stock, made to order, a pre-order or a proposed commission, and which dates the seller will commit to.
For changes or bespoke work, agree on the scope, approvals, deposit, final balance and what happens if you need an adjustment. Do not assume that an appointment includes a commission service; availability must be confirmed by the brand.
Keep a copy of the agreed reference and finish. If delivery will happen after your trip, confirm the recipient, delivery method and what the quoted total includes before paying.
Bring it home with a clear paper trail
Keep the invoice and care information with your purchase records. Ask the seller about protective packaging and aftercare from your home country; repairs become less convenient when the store is an international flight away.
Check official customs guidance for your destination rather than relying on a shop’s informal estimate. This guide does not promise a tax refund, duty exemption or universal return period.
Shopping links lead directly to the brands’ official websites. Product availability, appointment access and purchase conditions remain the seller’s responsibility to confirm.
Frequently asked questions
Can I meet the designer?
Do not assume so. Ask who will host the appointment and what access it includes.
Is everything bespoke?
No. Stock, pre-orders and commissions are different arrangements with different lead times.
Must I buy during the appointment?
Ask about any appointment fee or purchase expectation before confirming; do not infer one from the setting.
When was this checked?
