Latin America · Packing
A wellness suitcase should make the trip easier: clothes you can move in, a dry change after the pools and one outfit that works for an unhurried dinner. Pack for the actual setting and schedule, then resist buying a new routine for a few days away.

Start with the itinerary, not the shopping list
Separate your days into movement, water and ordinary travel. Check the temperature range, transfer arrangements and the venue’s dress expectations. An Andean pool visit, a humid lowland retreat and a coastal spa weekend need different layers even if all are called wellness travel.
Ask the property about mats, towels, robes and laundry before adding bulky items. A retreat may provide equipment, but a room booking at the same venue may not include the same setup. Confirm with the organizer when a hosted program is involved.
Use the Jet Set packing list for the broader trip, then add only what the wellness portion needs.
For hot springs: dry clothing is the useful luxury
Pack swimwear, a bag for wet items, a dry outfit and shoes suitable for the changing-area route. Follow the venue’s footwear guidance. Tabacón’s official springs page, for example, recommends water shoes.
For Papallacta, add a warm outer layer and protection from changing Andean weather. For Arenal, think about warm, humid conditions and a comfortable change before the return drive. Confirm towels rather than packing a large one on instinct.
Keep electronics and documents out of the wet bag. A small, easy-to-carry setup makes changing and transport more pleasant than a large tote full of unused extras.
For a retreat: build a small repeatable capsule
Choose two or three comfortable movement outfits, a light layer, sleepwear and one simple outfit for meals or an outing. Fabrics that suit the climate and dry conveniently are more useful than a different look for every session.
Bring the footwear the itinerary requires. A retreat with archaeological visits or nature walks needs more than sandals. Ask about surface, distance and equipment before deciding which shoes earn suitcase space.
Carry the personal items you already use: toiletries, any prescribed medication in its proper packaging and a small notebook if you enjoy writing. A retreat is not a reason to begin an unfamiliar supplement or skincare routine.
For a spa weekend: one outfit that crosses the day
A relaxed dress or coordinated separates, comfortable shoes and a light layer can work from lunch to dinner. Confirm restaurant expectations if there is a special meal. Leave valuable jewelry at home when you expect to move between a room, pool and treatment area.
Keep beauty simple and familiar. Bring the products you know work for you in suitable travel sizes, plus the sun-protection items you normally use. Check airline liquid limits and the property’s product guidance before packing.

The last five checks
- Equipment supplied by the venue or organizer.
- Pool footwear, towel and locker arrangements.
- Warm or waterproof layer for the actual setting.
- Comfortable shoes for any included outing.
- Airline baggage and liquids requirements.
Lay out the bag once and remove duplicates. The best wellness packing decision is often the item you leave behind: fewer purchases, less carrying and a little more space for the journey.
