Start with contemporary Latin American fashion at Marchanta, pause at Boulenc, and learn how to shop for ceramics with the maker in mind.

Shopping in Oaxaca can begin with one good fashion stop rather than a long, unverified list. Marchanta gives the afternoon its contemporary-design focus, while the short walk to Boulenc leaves time for looking, trying on and sitting down.
This is deliberately a two-stop route. Add another shop only after confirming its current address and opening arrangements. A ceramics workshop outside the center belongs to a separate outing, not an imaginary extension of a five-minute city walk.
Stop 1
Marchanta
Morelos 802, Centro, Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico
Marchanta’s edit connects Latin American fashion with beauty and home. Start with the shapes and textiles that draw your eye, then ask about the designer and the making of a particular piece. Do not assume every label in a concept store is from Oaxaca.
Stop 2
Boulenc — bakery and restaurant
Porfirio Díaz 207, Centro, Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico
The official directory places the bakery and restaurant at 207. This is your bread-and-coffee pause; the nearby Suculenta shop is listed separately at 211, and 211-C is a supplier contact, not the café address.

Buy thoughtfully, plan practically
For ceramics, Cooperativa 1050° is a useful starting point for understanding work by women potters in southeastern Mexico. Its online examples included Azucarera Plácida at MXN380, Azucarera Chij at MXN485 and Batea Emma at MXN1,250 when checked. These are specific examples, not an in-store price range or a promise of Oaxaca stock.
Use the current stockist directory or contact the cooperative before planning a physical visit. We have not added an unverified Oaxaca storefront to the walking map. For anything intended for food, ask the maker about intended use, glaze and care; for fragile pieces, discuss packing before buying.
The most useful questions are simple: who made this, where, from what material, and how should it be cared for? They help distinguish contemporary design, regional craft and imported merchandise without assuming that everything sold in the historic center has the same origin.

Researched September 27, 2026. This is an editorial shortlist, not a claim of a personal visit. Prices quoted are dated online examples; confirm current prices, stock and hours directly. Existing destination photography illustrates the city rather than documenting the listed stores.
