Where to Stay in Punta Cana: Bávaro vs. Cap Cana vs. Uvero Alto

“Punta Cana” covers a long stretch of the Dominican Republic’s eastern coast, and where you stay along it shapes the whole trip — from how busy your beach is to how far you are from dinner.
Bávaro: for energy and choice
Bávaro has the biggest concentration of resorts, the longest walkable beach and the most beach bars, water sports and restaurants. It suits first-timers, groups and anyone who likes a bit of life around them. See our Bávaro beach guide for more.
Cap Cana: for polish
South of the airport, Cap Cana is a gated resort community with a marina, championship golf and some of the area’s most refined hotels and villas. Its signature beach, Juanillo, is calm and beautiful. Expect higher prices and a quieter, more exclusive feel.
Uvero Alto: for quiet
North of Bávaro, Uvero Alto has wilder, emptier beaches and more secluded resorts, several of them adults-focused. The water can be rougher and you will be farther from restaurants outside your hotel — which, for many, is the point.
How to choose
Want to walk the beach and try different bars? Bávaro. Celebrating, golfing or traveling with a bigger budget? Cap Cana. Honeymoon or total switch-off? Uvero Alto. All three are within reach of Punta Cana International, though Uvero Alto is the longest transfer. Compare Punta Cana hotels ↗, then plan your days with our 4-day Punta Cana itinerary.
